Tateum’s passion for hair sparked early on in childhood while practicing on mannequin heads
and Barbie dolls, teaching herself how to braid and style by the age of five. When Tateum was
nine, a Cosmetologist came to school for career day and after listening to her speak, Tateum’s
mind was set, she was going to be a hairstylist when she grew up.

Tateum enrolled in Schilling Douglas School of Hair Design in 2001 while working for a local
salon supply distributing company called Elements. Tateum learned the fundamentals of
business and relationships while working for Elements during the day and the foundation of
cutting and color in the evenings at hair school. After graduation from cosmetology school, she
joined the team at Trilogy Salon and Day Spa in 2002 while simultaneously enrolling in
community college taking business classes. Tateum spent seven years at Trilogy, building her
client base and joining the Trilogy leadership team as a shampoo assistant manager.

Tateum joined the growing team at Gloss in 2009. As the team and locations began to grow at
Gloss, she became the General Manager, Wedding Coordinator and Director of Education.
Tateum helped Gloss grow their wedding client base to service over 200 bridal parties a year for
hair and makeup services. Gloss gave Tateum the opportunity to learn about the wedding
industry, to create curriculums to help fellow stylists grow in their skill set, and to utilize her
business education to streamline systems and processes in the salon. Tateum also surprised
herself by falling in love with being a bridal hairstylist. She joined the traveling team at Gloss,
spending weekends at beautiful locations while doing hair for wedding parties. In addition to
weddings, Tateum is also a published wedding hairstylist. Her editorial work includes Martha
Stewart Weddings, Green Wedding Shoes, Style Me Pretty, David’s Bridal, the Knot and
Delaware Today.

Tateum holds certifications and specializations in the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management and Development

  • Bumble and Bumble salon ownership and management program

  • Bumble and Bumble formal and editorial styling

  • Redken color specialist

  • Eufora International ESON

  • Paul Mitchell Cutting

  • Art of Business Development courses

In early 2021 Tateum pitched the idea coming back to their foundation of bridal styling and
launched Styled with Meraki. The business took off quickly, sparking the passion of business
ownership and creative freedom. Tateum’s favorite parts of being a wedding stylist are the connections made with bridal parties, the beauty created, the stories we get to hear, and the tears of joy we shed with every wedding party.

In addition to formal hair styling, Tateum owns Styled Studio in North Wilmington, DE where she specializes in haircutting, custom colors and blonding services.
